The Zhou B Art Center of Chicago, Illinois, located in the City’s South Side Bridgeport neighborhood, is proud to announce that it will be hosting “The 10 Years of Art Innovation,” a three-day series of events commemorating the 10th Year of the Center. The Celebration will take place October 15-17, 2014 at the Zhou B Art Center (1029 West 35th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60609, http://www.zhoubartcenter.com).
The Zhou B. Art Center provides a world-class, multi-disciplinary cultural venue and community gathering space composed of art galleries, artist’s studios, special event spaces and the Centerline Café.
Beginning on Wednesday, October 15th at 6 p.m. with an Artists Banquet, the Center will celebrate the talent currently hosted at the Center. October 16th at 6 p.m., the exclusive Zhou B Gala will gather the elite of Chicago for a special preview of the “Feeling is Liberty” Zhou Brothers exhibit and a dinner reception from fine culinary art by Kenmare Catering. The celebration will conclude October 17th at 7 p.m., with the monthly Zhou B Art Center Third Friday, open to the public. This will feature the opening of the “Feeling is Liberty” Zhou Brothers exhibit, the opening of the group show, “Centerline:TEN,” and “The ENERI Access Series Presents: “Crossing Borders” at Zhou B Art Center,” a live concert and a video screening.
“To have brought so many international artists and new talent to Chicago and have them grow at the Center is a great success. We are very proud of what we’ve done,” said DaHuang Zhou, Co-Owner of Zhou B Art Center.
In a statement, Cook County Board Commissioner John P. Daley (11th District), spoke to the impact the Zhou B Art Center has had on the community: “Since opening their art Center ten years ago, The Zhou Brothers have helped transform Bridgeport into a neighborhood well known for a renewed appreciation of the arts. The Zhou Brothers are dedicated not only to the arts, but to the community. We will be forever grateful for all they have done.”
FEELING IS LIBERTY
The Zhou Brothers exhibition “Feeling Is Liberty,” symbolically represents 40 years of the Zhou Brothers artistic collaboration process. In 1973, the two brothers created their first collaborative work during the Chinese Cultural Revolution period. Forty years later and after a long journey crossing personal and geographic borders, they present a solo exhibition that embodies their unique approach to art and life. Feeling is Liberty is not only the philosophy for their art, but a whole philosophy of life which has informed every aspect of their artistic journey.
CENTERLINE: TEN
“Centerline: TEN” is an exhibition celebrating the 10th year anniversary of the Zhou B Art Center. Curated by Sergio Gomez, Centerline: TEN provides a wide-angle view into the diverse community of artists who find their creative home at the Zhou B Art Center. Each work reflects the personal, social, political, or psychological border crossings each artist experiences in his/her own creative process.

CROSSING BORDERS – ENERI CONCEPT DESCRIPTIVE
ENERI will playfully present the 18th Annual Chicago Artists Month theme, “Crossing Borders,” in several ways – between colorful Chicago neighborhoods, across state and national borders, through several artistic genres that include music, video, photography, painting and prose. This project will showcase Chicago and Wisconsin artists crossing various age groups.
Musician/composer/singer/songwriter Matt Miller of Mukwonago, Wisconsin has composed and written over 300 songs. His original compositions will form the framework of a live musical performance scheduled on Thursday, October 17, 2014 at Chicago’s renowned Zhou B Art Center (1029 West 35th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60609, http://www.zhoubartcenter.com) during its regular monthly innovative “Third Fridays ” *series (7 p.m. – 10 p.m.)
Established by the world-famous Zhou Brothers, the Zhou B Art Center has become a creative hub crossing borders between Chicago and the international art community.
The October 17th Third Friday exciting musical performance will feature prolific Matt Miller on keyboards, performing in public for the first time live with Chicago artists Russell Kuzuhara (guitarist/singer/songwriter), and Louella Maningas Cabalona (singer) and Baron Cabalona (drummer), of the popular SamaSama Project Filipino fusion band fame. (Last year, SamaSama Project appeared in concert at Broadway star Lea Salonga’s Chicagoland concert at the Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University.)
“Crossing Borders: The Video,” will be screened in large projection that evening. Videographer Dan Gutierrez will take us visually through Chicago neighborhoods in his new “1SecondVideo,” created especially for this project with the “1SecondEverydayAppVideo” app (pending final editing choices as of presstime), and we celebrate crossing other physical borders in a vibrant audio-visual composite musical video (set to Matt Miller’s original music from his CD album “Daydreams,”) that includes artwork by eight photographers and four painters.
The project includes two Bright Young Stars – two recent college graduates. These videos will also be shown in other Chicago venues throughout the month of October.
Matt Miller’s Chinese brush, watercolor and oil paintings will be showcased in “Crossing Borders: The Video,” as well as that of his sister Kimbirdlee Fadner, a professional actress/singer/dancer/painter of Wisconsin and New York. Guests will enjoy everyday engagements in the pastel paintings by artist Susan Cua (Greenleaf Art Center, Chicago’s Rogers Park) from her Chicago and European collections; vibrant scenes of Macaw by popular international destination, theater, documentary, and wedding photographer Ken Carl; while Bright Young Stars Michael Nguyen and Lauren Uchima showcase breathtaking panoramic views taken during their respective recent trips to Mexico City and Japan. Lauren Uchima’s story will feature excerpts in prose from her blog story on the trip to her homeland.
Rising star Injung Oh (Zhou B Art Center: 33 Contemporary Gallery; Bluerider ART Taipei) shares some of her paintings, such as those shown in “Volossom,” a solo exhibition that featured her work in a 2013 exhibition in Taipei City, Taiwan.
Bold conceptual borders are crossed in the work of popular celebrity fashion photographer Amie Hana and fashion photographers Derek Tokarzewski and Benjamin “Benz” Abino (“Tiara” Magazine), while Martino Tangkar, 2014-2015 Chair of the Asian American Coalition of Chicago, a systems engineer by profession but an avid photographer and community leader, captures up scenes of Chicago’s communities at work and play.
Rounding it all up will be prose, some selected from Project Creator Rieny G. Cualoping’s photo book, “Everyday Inspirations for Mindful Living,” which features her photography and everyday ‘isms by AAA Five Diamond Chicago Chef Arun Sampanthavivat, who is also an accomplished artist, poet, writer and songwriter; and currently leading the development of Chicago’s Thai Town Project (in the former 17th District Chicago Police Department Station.)
Everyone attending this multi-media extravaganza will be touched with the telling of these personal stories and the artistic talent exhibited by these bright stars.
NOTE: Matt Miller is based in Wisconsin and Kimbirdlee Fadner is based in Wisconsin and New York. All other project artists listed are Chicago or Chicagoland-based.
The October 17th events are free and open to the public. Food and Drink – Culinary creations, small batch wines and craft beers, will be available for purchase at Kenmare Catering’s EAT ART Pavilions.

ABOUT THE ZHOU B ART CENTER
The Zhou B Art Center has been home to many notable exhibits. On January 18, 2011, the artists unveiled at The White House their most historical painting, “The Eight U.S. Presidents and The Great Wall” to U.S. President Barack Obama, as a national gift to His Excellency Hu Jintao, the President of China, on the occasion of the State visit to The White House. This painting was the first time in the artists’ career that recognizable figures appear in their art. In April of 2012, The Zhou Brothers opened their show, “Time: Portrait of History at the Center,” to great acclaim.
The Center is home to both National and Annual exhibits. The Annual “Centerline” show exhibits the work of all the artists at the Center, and is a multi-disciplinary show of printmakers, photographers, digital artists, sculptors and visual artists.
“The National Wet Paint MFA Biennial Exhibition” is an outlook and an overview of top MFA painting programs in the United States. “Wet Paint” refers to the idea that this is a fresh group of artists. They are MFA (Masters of Fine Arts degree) candidates and recent MFA recipients, working primarily in the medium of painting. Sergio Gomez, MFA, Director of Exhibits at The Zhou B Art Center, created this show to give emerging artists the opportunity to show in a world-class gallery.
The National Self Portrait Show, in its final year at the Zhou B Art Center, has let artists of a variety of mediums look within to express their own image. As one of the Center’s biggest shows, audiences have flocked to see the unique pieces.
Events have also found a great home at the Zhou B Art Center. Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, the Vee Foundation, and Meals on Wheels are a few of the charities who have benefitted from fundraising events held at the Zhou B Art Center. Nike, Oribe Haircare, and Coffee Con have also drawn in their clients to the unique venue. The Chicago Sinfonietta and The Zhou Brothers created an unforgettable collaboration in 2012. As the orchestra performed “Spring and Summer,” from Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” ShanZuo and DaHuang Zhou intuitively moved together with motions like a dance, culminating in a masterpiece “Li: River of Souls.”
The Zhou B Art Center provides galleries, studio spaces, special events and a collaborative environment to the Chicago neighborhood of Bridgeport and beyond. For more information about booking the Center or about The Zhou Brothers, please visit http://www.zhoubartcenter.com or call 773.523.0200.
