Columbus, Ohio Dentist Enhances Patient Care With New Cone Beam CT Digital 3-D Radiography
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) August 08, 2014
Grandview Dental Care, a family and cosmetic dentistry practice in Columbus, Ohio, has installed a state-of-the-art Cone Beam Computed Tomography system to enhance the quality of digital imaging and dental care.
“The CBCT system offers a revolutionary advance in imaging technology and diagnostic precision,” said William E. Thompson, D.D.S., who founded Grandview Dental Care in 1978. “We’re excited to offer the many advantages of 3-D radiography to our patients.”
In just 14 seconds, Grandview Dental Care’s CBCT scanner rotates around a patient’s head, obtaining up to 600 distinct images of the mouth, teeth, jaw and surrounding facial structure. Computer software then produces 3-D images, giving dentists an unparalleled view of teeth, cavities, fillings, nerves, root canals, sinuses and bone structure. The high-definition 3-D images clearly show internal structures – even components of the jaws and teeth that are not typically visible in a flat, two-dimensional X-ray.
Thompson and partner Abraham Hoellrich D.D.S. are using the 3-D images to more accurately diagnose dental conditions, reduce the need for invasive procedures, shorten treatment time and improve treatment outcomes.
“Already, CBCT scans have helped us diagnose infections that weren’t visible using digital panoramic or bitewing X-rays,” Dr. Hoellrich said. “In several patients, we’ve used the 3-D images to more accurately pinpoint the source of their pain, allowing faster and more effective treatment.”
Dr. Thompson said cone beam technology has the potential to improve nearly every aspect of dental care. “From locating children’s impacted teeth, to guiding intricate root canal procedures, to identifying potentially cancerous oral lesions, these exceptionally crisp, detailed images will help us deliver optimal outcomes for our patients.”
The 3-D images provide greater accuracy for measuring and placing dental implants, crowns and bridges, and other dental prosthetics, giving better and more predictable results. Thanks to this new technology, Dr. Thompson and Dr. Hoellrich anticipate placing more dental implants at Grandview Dental Care, reducing the need for patients to visit a specialist.
Dr. Hoellrich said the CBCT scans also improve patient communications. “Our patients are amazed by the technology, and the 3-D images give them a much better understanding of any issues they may be having.”
He noted that the non-invasive, pain-free scans take less time and use less X-ray radiation than other types of radiography. Patients may schedule CBCT scans at Grandview Dental Care, 1220 Grandview Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43212. The office is conveniently located in Grandview Heights, close to downtown Columbus and The Ohio State University.
