+John Green teaches you about a future in which he’ll teach you about
literature! Here is the reading list:
The Odyssey by Homer http://dft.ba/-7V5t
Oedipus Rex by Sophocles http://dft.ba/-7Uo8
Hamlet by Bill Shakespeare http://dft.ba/-7VDy
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley http://dft.ba/-7U9n
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë http://dft.ba/-7U9o
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee http://dft.ba/-7V8z
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut http://dft.ba/-7U9p
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe http://dft.ba/-7VDB
Beloved by Toni Morrison http://dft.ba/-7VDC
Many of these books also have free editions available. Try the amazing and
awesome Project Gutenberg at http://www.gutenberg.org
why not do Animal Farm it is written by a great writer who was also said to
be one of the best writers out of the late 20th century plus it is about
Russia so it has history and symbolism in it would have been a great book
for you to do.
I wonder why John picked the Odyssey over the Iliad. It seems odd
considering the Iliad is somewhat of a prequel to the Odyssey.
Maybe pick a comedy next time? I know some of these are funny-ish (I’m not
familiar with Slaughterhouse Five so perhaps it is a comedy) but the list
seems very dark to me. I mean, you’re following Oedipus up with Hamlet.
HAMLET.
Sooooo where’s the video?
Why are most of these books pretty much college required readings ? I mean
couldn’t you explain literature by using book that aren’t already analyzed
to death ?
Also isn’t the book form of hamlet totally annoying to read since it was
first a play ?
you should do beowulf
YOU CAN’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!
I’m going to read Jurassic Park and nothing you can do will stop me.
1:13 DUDE!!!…. spoiler alert. Duh…
SQUEEEEEEEE! I LOVE YOU!
why are we reading so much english literature? Homer oedipus and a lot of
english stuff there is so much amazing literature as i german of course
think of goethe and schiller but every country has its own great authors.
you have so many non american fans please think more about them.
read everything except homer and morrison
(-:
2 weeks!? Who can read a book in 2 weeks? I need at least 2 months
Need to talk about Animal Farm!
No Mark Twain? Damnit, he’s the American author we need to discuss.
What about the Wizard of Oz? There’s a theory that’s it’s really a symbolic
tale about the People’s Party in the U.S.
How long until the Hamlet one comes out? I am doing a project for my
Shakespeare class about Hamlet, and I would love to show them that Crash
Course!!!
What i need for GCSE
Romeo & Juliet
Of Mice and Men
Heroes
An Inspector Calls
Thanks John for doing none of these!
So there will be no more history? Will you guys at least talk about current
events and stuff?
Well I read Hamlet and To Kill a Mockingbird in highschool, and my mom read
me Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein when I was 7… yes that is some
questionable parenting and it gave me nightmares. So 3 down I guess?
2 weeks to read 9 books?! Damn. Even tho I’ve read To Kill a Mockingbird
and saw an accurate (at least I hope is accurate) portrayal of The Odyssey
and Hamlet in an episode of the Simpsons, that’s kind of short notice..
I have already read all of those…
feh! ditch all but Vonnegut & read 100 Years of Solitude several times
instead
There’s so many books I own. I’m just waiting for time to read, like that
guy in the twilight zone. But I have read Frankenstein and loved it.
Looking forward to that one.
Aww man, I really thought this was going to have something to do with the
Simpsons.
Do we REALLY need to read the books to watch this series of crash course. I
barely get time to read as it is.
i knew this was gonna be fun from the cover!
R.E.M. meets The Field Mice. I approve.
The guitar solo at the end is fantastic.
love it
Sweet! :)
