Curious Oyster Seminars travels to Macedonia August 11 – 15, 2014 for their Life of Alexander the Great seminar. Literature and history buffs are not the only ones attending. Included in the seminar is a neuroscientist and a New Mexico-based website designer.

“We focus on bringing our seminarians to the cities and immersing them in the cultures that are resonant with the works we read,” said Melissa Carl, director of Curious Oyster Seminars. “We attract people who love travel and literature, irrespective of how they earn their daily bread. It is terrific to hear scientists and web designers discussing Alexander’s military strategies. The unique perspective of each seminarian, borne of his own experience in the world, deepens the conversation.”

Curious Oyster Seminars offers domestic weekend seminars each year in addition to their international and adventure seminars. Upcoming seminars include Cormac McCarthy’s “Blood Meridian” in Santa Fe, NM October 31 – November 02, 2014 and The Life of Muhammad in Istanbul, Turkey August 10 – 15, 2015.

Curious Oyster Seminars provides opportunities for adults to encounter great works of philosophy, history, and literature in the locations that inspired the authors to pen those works. More rigorous than a book club and more intellectual than a luxury vacation, Curious Oyster Seminars combines the best of both: great books, tours, food, and wine.
