Dr. Leonard Umanoff, DDS Uses New CEREC Crowns that Save Time for Dental Patients
Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) May 07, 2015
Over a lifetime, most people will end up replacing at least one tooth. A broken tooth or a failing crown usually means a couple of trips to the dentist. Multiple trips to the dentist result in more needle pokes to the gums, followed by the wear of a sensitive temporary crown while the new crown is fabricated. In addition, it takes time to schedule needed appointments. Nobody wants to spend more time than necessary. In the dental chair, Dr. Leonard Umanoff, DDS uses the CEREC system for the ceramic crowns and veneers. The CEREC system requires a single visit to the doctor’s office.
CEREC is an acronym that can be translated into two different meanings. The initials stand for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or Ceramic Reconstruction. CEREC is the use of a computer-aided drafting and manufacturing to create crowns and veneers, opposed to manually grinding and polishing crowns by hand in a laboratory.
Thanks to CEREC, Dr. Umanoff’s patients require only one visit for a new crown or veneer, in most cases. The CEREC system allows Dr. Umanoff to take impressions and measurements of the tooth with the special camera. The data and images from the camera are then loaded into the computer, which maps out a digital model for the crown and veneer.
After the digital crown model is ready, the CEREC system mills and polishes the patient’s crown or veneer. Dr. Umanoff has the entire CEREC system in his office, his patients may sit and relax in the waiting room for the duration of time it takes to the to fabricate the crown. Compared to the traditional way, CEREC crowns are much more convenient.
Before CEREC, patients who needed crowns or veneers would have to go through a messy impressions of their teeth, which were sent to a laboratory where a model would be made. At the dental laboratory the crown would be ground out of a piece of porcelain or metal, before being sent back to the doctor’s office, so the patient would have to return for their second appointment.
Dr. Umanoff recognizes the importance of the comfort as well as the convenience for his patients and their necessary dental work. The CEREC system offers the best of both worlds. Patients of Dr. Umanoff can leave the office with a brand-new crown or veneer after a single office visit.
Dr. Umanoff has been practicing dentistry in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY since 2001. He studied dentistry in Moscow before moving to the United States and becoming a dentist. In addition to using CEREC technology, Dr. Umanoff is a lifetime student of dentistry and is committed to using the best technology for the comfort of his patients.
