“It’s Everybody’s business” does kind of demonize taxes, but still assumes the need for them to pay for government schools, roads, military, police. To me, J…

I’ve accepted the logic of regulatory capture, but someone explain to me
why those who would be controlled by Obama’s new quest to control, I mean
free-up, the internet are opposed to it? Did all of the utilities oppose
their being controlled at first and then only later recognizing the value
of they being the monopoly?
Convenient how you missed out mentioning that in the real story, the drugs
he was selling were actually the ineffective kind that didn’t work and the
FDA were the ones who eventually got the real drugs that worked approved.
Sadly, the regulators have in fact banned cup cakes traded to a fellow
student, “just in case”. As you say, if a few are hurt, someone gets in
trouble. But if many benefit, who cares?
“Crony capitalism is capitalism’s inbred cousin.” Awesome.
While I would agree that we need the FDA.. I am now thinking that we need
an FDA with less bureaocratic bullshit and that it needs to be better for
the common good.
My gf suffers from an eye illness that will make her blind if she do not
take an specific operation. however, the operation is only legal in Europe
because the FDA hasn’t approved it yet and this is after more than 6 years
in use there in Europe.. We are from Venezuela but we have some assets in
the US and it is actually very difficult for us to go to Europe to do it..
After that I started to hate the FDA not becuase it isn’t useful.. But
because it is too shitty.
Must see clip for all libertarians and pro-market pro-freedom minded
people!
Wow this was really really good! I want more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This video is so good I watched the whole thing
What sickens me if this “liberals” view of the character. Character isnt
scared of gays. Not wanting to be labeled as gay isnt anti gay. Its pro
hetero because gay label kills your heterosexual action. You also had to
get the racism in there.
Honest racist is much more likable then dishonest pseudoliberal who speaks
for diversity. Id like to see a good rational racist that isnt a shamed of
their racism in a hollywood film. But that isnt going to happen.
“Crony capitalism is regular capitalism’s inbred cousin.
Great stuff! Keep it up!
Came for the econ. Left when the rainbow colored ram-rod came out.

Love this video! Maybe the my favorite econ video I’ve ever seen.
Especially at the end when he explained how individuals and nations enhance
themselves and develop a sense of community through trade.
Please drop the subjective value section. Other than that, brilliant
production – look forward to the next one!
Why is this a bad movie for date night? Was thinking about taking a date
to see it :S
Interesting and pretty good, although I must say that “Subjective Value”
segment was totally pointless and significantly detracted from the overall
quality of the video. I think there are a lot of “economic lessons” in pop
culture, so I will watch future eps with interest.

mmmm… kate upton….
great stuff, keep making stuff like this please! That, and another rap
battle!
This is pretty good
Yes!!! EconStories does again what it does best…combining humor with a
critical economic lesson desperately needed in our society. I hope this new
series enjoys the huge succes it deserves…God knows we need it.
YOYO do a economics of the movie Avatar please!
Think of Al Capone; think of Meyer Lansky. Let’s go back to the original
reason for the Pure Food And Drug Act, because these same entrepernural
drug makers back in the day would sell “snake oil” literally and
figuratively to an unsuspecting public. So in order to make sure what you
take is safe, the FDA has to make sure that the drug in question has been
thoroughly tested, sometimes this process takes time. On the other hand,
you could take your life in your own hands and take a substance that may
or may not be safe. But how many of you out there are willing to sign a
waiver to your right to sue for whatever damages may occur? I thought so.
Hmmm, no mention of child labor, wage slavery, dangerous working
conditions, waste of resources, stealing of resources, the wars we start to
steal those resources, toxifying the environment, externalities, owners
hiring thugs to beat back unions, shareholders reaping the structure and
moving on, gutting the business, big business using government to make
legislation in their own favor etc. This is sheer nonsense.
This is about free enterprise not about economics.
awww this is kinda cute c:
Very instructive 🙂 although you could tell how back then there were no
mayor worries about the scarcity of land and natural resources, since they
did not even mention anything about it :o
Ha, this cartoon is flat out wrong about how wars affect the business
world. I once heard the owner of a vehicular technology business say that
“if you can’t make money during a war, you flat out can’t make money”. And
in World War II, with all the men off fighting, the work that was normally
done by them was vacant and had to be fulfilled by women who otherwise
wouldn’t get the opportunity. Secondly, define “essential”. Many people
would say artistic jobs are far from essential to the functionality of a
developed nation like ours, but to quote Winston Churchill “If we’re
sacrificing our art in the name of being able to better fight the war, then
what are we fighting to defend?” Or something to that effect anyway.
This cartoon was obviously made by people who are overly confident in our
government’s functionality. I’m a little surprised it didn’t encourage us
to buy war bonds. Plus, I don’t like how it seems to borderline discourage
saving up for an emergency, it says “keep the money flowing into the
system” and “take out loans and be sure to pay them off”
WOW! No multiculturalism shit?
The problem i see in this model is that it promotes the strenght of
monopolies, because even if you are a hard worker or do things that are not
necesarily marketable, you cannot afford a way of living. That’s why
government regulation is needed.
It’s really nice to find a powerful message about our competitive system on
a site that is radically liberal by nature. With 22,000+ views it’s not
high on the popularity scale, but dang-it, I’m glad I watched it.
People belived everything the government said back then. ..
The right to go into business, lol.
This is great
Job of choice, lol.

Economics Cartoon- It’s Everybody’s Business (1954) from John Sutherland
I actually saw this in school when i was young, and have been looking for
it for a while now.
I’m sure the audience from the 1950’s were boggled why they didn’t go into
an in depth analysis of capital gains taxes as well. Oh wait, this was made
for children. It was not unusual for friends and family to invest in a
business venture if the person had a good chance of being successful. There
are also, of course, angel investors who are informal investors in business
ventures. Be sure to like and favorite.
Excellent visual explanation for beginners to understand. A solid
foundation.
If you showed this 16 monute animation to all children in state schools in
the US, it will constitute for the majority of them a better education than
the sum of all their school years put together.
