Friends of Science Society asks Triple Pundit to Retract article with Greenpeace Statements about Friends of Science Climate Change Billboard Campaign in Canada
Calgary, Alberta (PRWEB) March 10, 2015
Friends of Science Society is challenging statements reportedly made by a Greenpeace Canada spokesperson, quoted in the Triple Pundit on-line environmental news site in a Nov. 18, 2014 article entitled: “‘Friends of Science’ Not So Friendly, Blame Sun for Climate Change.” Friends of Science have sent a letter asking Triple Pundit to produce evidence to support their claims or to publish a retraction and apology.
Friends of Science note that the article states that Greenpeace claimed a complaint had been lodged with Advertising Standards Canada, an industry advertising organization with a published code of standards, about the Friends of Science billboard campaign which said “The Sun is the main driver of climate change. Not you. Not CO2.”
In the Triple Pundit article, Greenpeace is quoted as saying: “Our concern is that they [Friends of Science] are trying to misinform the public …” The article claims the Advertising Standards of Canada [ASC]: “refused to take action.”
Friends of Science Society rejects the Greenpeace claim of ‘misinformation,’ saying that since 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) itself has defined climate change as: “It refers to any change in climate over time, whether due to natural variability or as a result of human activity.”
Consequently suggesting Friends of Science Society or any other climate researchers are “deniers” or that they are “misinforming” the public, conflicts with the IPCC’s own acknowledgement that climate change is due to natural factors as well as human influences – or both. The IPCC Physical Sciences Technical Summary of Sept 2013, page 114 and 115 reports ‘Low Confidence” of any imminent climate threats.
Numerous peer-reviewed papers in various journals indicate the sun is highly influential in climate change.
The Dutch government has called for the IPCC to be overhauled. In their July 2013 submission on the future of the IPCC, a key request is: “The IPCC needs to adjust its principles. We believe that limiting the scope of the IPCC to human-induced climate change is undesirable, especially because natural climate change is a crucial part of the total understanding of the climate system, including human-induced climate change.”
This would include solar influences which are the main driver of climate change according to Friends of Science research review.
About
Friends of Science have spent a decade reviewing a broad spectrum of literature on climate change and have concluded the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide (CO2). The core group of the Friends of Science is made up of a growing group of earth, atmospheric, astrophysical scientists and engineers who volunteer their time and resources to educate the public.
