“East Meets West” includes Chinese-to-English translations of prose essays and novels. Chan includes biographies of the writers, maps, illustrations and her commentary with each translation, giving readers a complete overview of the text.

Chan outlines the parallels between Eastern and Western texts and brings her own touches to the translations. Her goal is to highlight the similarities between Eastern and Western cultures and illustrate how both cultures have more in common than originally perceived.
