LabArchives Partners with Internet2 to Bring Electronic Laboratory Notebook Services to Higher Education Institutions
CARLSBAD, California (PRWEB) November 09, 2014
LabArchives, the developers of the innovative web-based electronic laboratory notebook (ELN), announced today that they have entered into agreement to offer LabArchives ELN services to Internet2 higher education member universities. Both the Professional Edition and Classroom Edition are available to the member universities under unique site license service packages.
LabArchives offers two different ELN applications, the Professional Edition for scientific laboratory environments and the Classroom Edition for instructional lab courses:
Professional Edition:
Principal Investigators can easily incorporate the ELN into their lab workflow to enable researchers to easily create, store, share and manage their research data all while controlling the intellectual property.
Support research staff productivity and efficiency
Manage lab team progress remotely to provide timely feedback and catch mistakes earlier
Support funding agencies’ Data Stewardship and Data Management Plans requirements (i.e. NIH, NSF)
Enable 24/7 real-time feedback and collaboration
Securely protect lab’s Intellectual Property

Cornell University, the sponsoring institution, worked diligently with Internet2 and LabArchives to define and tailor the new service packages as a unique ELN Internet2 NET+ offering. Cornell University is in its second year as a site license partner of LabArchives for both the Professional and Classroom versions and has positively contributed to the continuing development of the application.
“We chose LabArchives to meet the growing number of requests that we had received for a lab notebook software. It met all of our requirements, including security and usability requirements, at a reasonable price,” offered Barbara Friedman, interim director, Academic Technologies, Cornell University. “That is why we were proud to sponsor their service inclusion within the Internet2 NET+ program.”
“The NET+ LabArchives offering is another great example of a successful community-driven process created and implemented for the unique needs of higher education,” said Shel Waggener, senior vice president at Internet2. “This research and teaching-focused solution will enable students, faculty, and researchers at Internet2 member institutions to realize far-reaching benefits of managing data, workflows and collaboration.”
“LabArchives is both thrilled and honored to be included among the select offerings within the Internet2 NET+ portfolio that have been chosen as proven solutions by and for leading institutions of higher education,” said Earl Beutler, president and CEO of LabArchives. “With LabArchives, institutions are ensuring that their laboratory research data is secure and that they have control of their intellectual property, which allows them to meet funding agencies’ requirements for a data management plan.”
