MyScript technology was ranked in first position during the annual CROHME competition at the International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition (ICFHR) conference held September 1-4 in Crete, Greece.

CROHME, which stands for Competition on Recognition of On-line Handwritten Mathematical Expressions, is an annual competition organized as part of the ICFHR conference. MyScript technology was ranked at the first position for the three tasks organized during this competition: isolated math symbol recognition, math expression recognition, and matrix recognition.

Eight groups from five different countries took part in this year’s CROHME competition. According to the competition organizers, handwritten math recognition is very challenging. The number of symbol classes is large, and the two dimensional nature of the notation greatly complicates the segmentation and interpretation stages.

“As the first company in the industry to fully integrate two dimension input recognition capabilities into our product offerings, MyScript is dedicated to providing the most advanced handwriting recognition technology in the market,” said Pierre-Michel Lallican, Chief Technology Officer, Head of MyScript Labs. “We are delighted to be recognized for the third time in the CROHME competition. This adds to the numerous awards MyScript has won over the last several years as we are constantly challenging the limits of the technology to maintain our market-leading edge.”

MyScript Math technology enables the recognition of handwritten mathematical and scientific expressions and equations. MyScript recognizes and converts over 200 mathematical symbols and characters to digital information and delivers results in real-time. It is ideal for applications that incorporate mathematical or scientific notation, including applications devoted to teaching or learning.

Developers can leverage the technology showcased in the CROHME competition by joining the MyScript Developer Program. The program and self-service web portal provides developers with immediate access to developer toolkits, a robust forum for peer support and knowledge sharing, and additional resources such as documentation, videos, and webinars.
