Garden City, NY (PRWEB) September 30, 2014
NAPW honors Patricia A. Broderick, Ph.D., Medical Professor at City University of NY and NYU Langone Medical Centers, a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year for leadership in Nanobiotechnology, Brain, Sensors and Education in the Medical Field with this prestigious distinction. As the largest, most-recognized organization of women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.
Patricia Broderick has come a long way from her humble beginnings in New York’s Bronx County, home of the legendary New York Botanical Garden and Bronx Zoo. As the daughter of proud Irish immigrants, her ancestry gave her pride in where she came from, and her American birthright gave her pride in who she was to become.
After answering a calling to enter the religious life, which sustains her to this day, the world opened up to Patricia in ways she would never imagine. Her strong aptitude for the sciences did not go unnoticed by her superiors. She taught high school science and garnered great respect and admiration from her students. At every turn, Patricia was given the opportunity to pursue further education. In 1972 she was awarded a grant concerned with drug use and abuse. It was during this time that she was actively teaching general science, biology, chemistry and anatomy and consequently became a research assistant for the highly respected psychiatrist, Dr. Nathan Kline, who helped fund her Doctorate degree with a concentration in bipolar mental illness.
In her passionate pursuit of learning and with the encouragement of some of the great minds in neuropsychophamacology, Patricia succeeded in inventing the BRODERICK PROBE®. Its impact in scientific progress has been monumental. It is the first translational device made in the laboratory that has met with success in the diagnosis of the epilepsy patient. Intraoperative studies helpful to Parkinson’s patients will dramatically advance treatment for Parkinson’s with the use of this biosensor.
Awards & Accomplishments: Ph.D., Pharmacology and Neuroscience; The Broderick Brain Foundation; BRODERICK PROBE®
