New novel envisions life in post-apocalyptic world
ALHAMBRA, Calif. (PRWEB) January 20, 2015
The apocalypse is never far from the public’s imagination, manifested in numerous news articles, movies and books every year. In his literary debut, Daniel Flores puts a compelling, humanistic spin on this popular theme. His novel, “Journal” (published by Xlibris), is a deeply moving, visionary tale of a group of people struggling to survive in the barren landscape of a post-apocalyptic world.
One teacher, his assistant, and 30 students figure in “Journal.” The only survivors of an unknown apocalyptic event, they must pick up the pieces of their devastated lives amongst the rubble of what is left of the world around them. Together they will face hunger, the death of each and every loved one, and the uncertainty of their present and future.
Flores, who is also a teacher like his protagonist, says that the idea for the story came to him while imagining how he would respond if an earth-shattering calamity did take place.
“One day I was sitting and thinking about what the hell I would do, as a professional teacher, if the end of the world came as I was at work,” the first time author says, “the story just came from that one thought.”
By turns frightening and hopeful, “Journal” envisions a world engulfed in death and despair and what it means to be alive and human while in this state of total devastation.
