New Technology Testing and Treatment Introduced in NYC for People Suffering from Hip Pain and Disorders
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 03, 2015
Patients in New York City are now able to receive a breakthrough testing and conservative treatment for hip pain (or other types of pain upon walking) that is not possible with any other forms of physical therapy existing. The New York Dynamic Neuromuscular Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy clinic is introducing Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment or CAREN, which they were awarded by a Dutch military hospital for their support in the development of virtual reality rehabilitation.
CAREN is a multi-sensory virtual reality system developed by Motek Medical (a Dutch medical company) for the treatment and rehabilitation of human mechanics such as walking, posture, and balance, as well as back pain, spinal stability, and motor control integration. Through CAREN’s advanced technology, the patient’s weight distribution and loading mechanics are measured. These two factors are extremely important – research concludes that symmetry in weight distribution is necessary for normal function of hip mobility, and thus imperative for patients with any type of hip disorder or pain to execute correctly. One of the many attractive aspects of this system is that it allows the patient to experience a virtual environment of fun, therapeutic games that are programmed to work specific motor actions, and it makes it clear what muscles are being activated and used. The actual system is composed of a circular platform that integrates a treadmill and a force plate to monitor and calculate the movements performed by the patient. There are twelve motion cameras set up to cover a 360° view of the patient, which allows every movement to be shown on the screen in front of them. Moreover, every movement is provided real-time feedback during the program to allow the patient to improve their performance.
