Ringling College of Art and Design president Dr. Larry R. Thompson today announced two matching challenge donations designed to complete the $ 16 million funding for the Ringling College ‘Beyond the Boundaries’ Library Campaign. A one-million dollar matching challenge was provided by an anonymous donor, and a second matching challenge that is for gifts up to $ 30,000 was provided by the Frank E. Duckwall Foundation which supports several local non-profits.

The two matching challenges were announced by Dr. Thompson at the Ringling College Library Association’s Town Hall Series lecture by Ambassador Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. at the Van Wezel in Sarasota on Monday, February 2nd, 2015. To qualify for the matching contributions, donations should be directed to the Ringling College Library Campaign at 941.309.0117 or librarycampaign(at)ringling(dot)edu.

“We are grateful for the support of the Ringling College Library Association and the Town Hall lecture series that has brought so many illuminating speakers to Sarasota, and to their members whose support has helped bring us so far in funding the building of our new library,” said Ringling College of Art and Design President Dr. Larry R. Thompson. “Thanks to the Library Association and their supporters, we are now close to the summit. We believe that the anonymous one million-dollar matching donation and the Frank E. Duckwall Foundation’s matching challenge for gifts up to $ 30,000 will energize our community to complete the funding. And, most importantly if we can complete the campaign before May 31, 2015, we can begin new library construction this spring and open the new library an entire year ahead of schedule.”

The Ringling College Library Campaign has flourished under the leadership of co-Chairs Isabel Norton and Carolyn Johnson. Both Isabel and Carolyn have also served as past chairs of the Board of Trustees for Ringling College of Art and Design.

“The new Ringling College Library will be the ‘Library of the Future’,” Thompson concluded. Along with Ringling students, members of the Ringling College Library Association and arts researchers will have free access to the planned 46,000 square-foot three story library, which will provide collaboration and interaction space for students and allow more of the college’s special collections to be accessible..
