This guy is good but he needs to get his facts togheter. 1) guarani is the
indigenous language of paraguay. 2) 95% of the people of mexico speak
spanish as a native language, not 80%. 3) Mexican spanish, or any other
latin american spanish is diverging from one another, but not more so than
british, american, australian…
I’m a spanish speaker, and also study history. The amount of factual
mistakes said in this video is huge, so you may take this with a grain of
salt and not believe everything that is said.
@25:34: When the Portuguese conquered Brazil, the official policies of the
captaincies and kingdoms formed were precisely to intermarry with the
locals, as it would be the only sure way to assimilate them into the new
empire, and keep social cohesion.
While spontaneous mixing of course always happens, I’d be surprised if it
wasn’t also deliberate by the Renaissance-era Spanish conquerors.
Very enriching lecture. Thank you professor for your candidness.
It is not the first lecture that this woman with the disgusting cough is
disturbing. Can´t you forbid her to attend? At least until she stop
smoking?
Already donwloading to my iPod. Is there any way to get the notes of these
lectures? Some of the books mentioned on them I’ve never read and a list
would be useful. Thanks again!
